Visionary Art for Peace
Recently, artist Alex Sastoque was invited to the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, for the exhibit "Visionary Art for Peace." Here he presented his new series "Cultivating Peace" which deals with the armed conflict in Colombia. The piece Metamorphosis took the spotlight. Sastoque created this piece in 2015 when General (r) Manuel José Bonett and the Military Forces of Colombia provided him with an original AK-47 used by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which he transformed into an instrument of agriculture. In this event President Juan Manuel Santos and 2016 Nobel Peace Prize winner said:
"This artwork is everything we are trying to do in a nutshell, for firearms to become instruments of peace, instruments of progress, instruments of wellbeing. This piece is important because it sums up everything we are doing"
